The Australian Parliamentary Fellowship has been offered since 1971 to contribute to scholarship on the parliament, raise awareness of the role of the Parliamentary Library and assist an early career scholar to gain experience in the parliamentary environment.
The Fellowship provides funding at Parliamentary Service Level 6 for a period of 12 months and is available to Australian citizens who have been awarded a PhD within the last three years.
The Fellow’s main task is to produce a research report which can be published as a monograph by the Parliamentary Library and assist in providing research services to individual Senators and Members.

The Crime and Justice Research Centre (CJRC) at Victoria University is unique in New Zealand in its capacity to provide research and consultancy services on crime and criminal justice responses. The Centre concentrates on policy-focused research, often evaluative in nature and done under contract to government and public sector agencies. CJRC is based with the Institute of Criminology in the School of Social and Cultural Studies. Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Criminology in the Department of Sociology, from September 1, 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Sociology of Crime and Deviance, Criminology or a closely related field, with a proven record in teaching, research and publication. Applications are particularly welcome from those with interests in one or more of the following areas: cultural criminology, globalization and comparative criminologies, social exclusion and (dis)order, criminal justice and social control. The City After Dark: The Governance and Lived Experience of Urban Night-Time Culture:
$31,140+ pa.
This doctoral project is a component of an Australian Research Council Discovery-funded study of the experience, lived forms and governance of the urban night-time economy in Sydney. Its aims are to promote understanding of the long-term cultural and social sustainability of after-dark leisure practices, and of the safety and protection of a diverse range of participants and local communities. The research involves an innovative study of evidence about patterns of violence, crime and disorder in night-time settings, and will analyse official, public and private police responses to these urban phenomena within a critical social science and humanities framework. The candidate will develop their qualitative and quantitative research skills in an experienced interdisciplinary team based in the internationally renowned Centre for Cultural Research CCR).

The Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention was established in 2000 as an interdisciplinary centre for postgraduate training, research and professional consultancy services. Since its inception, the focus of CTCP has been to enhance understanding of the dynamics involved in organised transnational criminal activities in order to help generate and refine the critical tools needed by institutions to effectively investigate and prevent such crimes.
The Centre offers unique postgraduate degree programs in transnational crime prevention, and prosecutions, as well as providing customised training to government departments and law enforcement agencies in Asia and the Pacific. In addition, CTCP staff and a rapidly growing number of higher degree research students conduct research on a diverse range of topics, including the regulation and prevention of money-laundering and other financial crimes, terrorism and drug-trafficking.
In 2009, the Centre will move to the UOW’s Innovation Campus in Wollongong where it will occupy purpose-built facilities supported by a
$12 million grant from the Australian Government. In this context the appointment of a Professor and Executive Director represents a major step in pursuit of the Centre’s goal of global recognition as the Asia-Pacific regional focal point for information exchange, training and research on the investigation, prosecution and prevention of transnational crime.

The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research has a vacancy for a Senior Research Officer to conduct an evaluation of the NSW Magistrates Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) program. MERIT is a Local Court diversion program that targets adult defendants with illicit drug use problems who are motivated to undertake drug treatment. The successful applicant will evaluate whether MERIT has any impact on the rate at which offenders return to the criminal justice system.
Total remuneration package to: $89,840.00 (includes salary range of $74,527.00-$81,414.00 depending on skills, experience and qualifications, plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading). The position is full-time for 12 months.

The Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) is the Australian Government’s independent national research agency for research and the dissemination of information on crime and criminal justice. The AIC:
- manages national monitoring programs on homicide, drug use amongst offenders, deaths in custody, armed robbery, firearms, juveniles in detention, and fraud against the Commonwealth;
- conducts research on a wide array of topics, including sexual assault, illicit drugs, transnational crime, cybercrime, fraud and Indigenous victims and offenders; and

Norfolk Constabulary seeks a post doctoral researcher with a Criminological or Sociological background. You will be undertaking qualitative research into public expectations and experience of policing across three areas of the county which will include the accurate collection, compilation and reporting of data. Collection will include interviewing members of the general public, victims of crime and offenders.
As well as your doctorate you will be able to demonstrate skills and experience in qualitative research. Working on this citizen-focussed neighbourhood policing project does not require direct policing research experience but it would be an advantage. You will be employed directly by Norfolk Constabulary although some time will be spent on secondment to the Police Federation in London. Methods : The new Society for Research Synthesis Methodology (SRSM) is a small,
international, group of researchers from different application areas with a common interest in research synthesis including statistical methods, empirical studies and systematic review methods. The 2006-07 State Budget allocated funding for initiatives to transform the criminal justice system's response to sexual assault. A new Sexual Assault Reform Unit plays a leading role in developing, co-ordinating and evaluating current and future phases of reform.
The Department of Justice is looking for a dynamic, creative, visionary individual to lead the planning, coordination and monitoring of the implementation and evaluation of sexual assault reform projects carried out by the Department of Justice and other agencies; the support of governance mechanisms (including by reporting on the progress of projects); the development of a strategy for long term cultural change within the justice system; and the identification, design and achievement of research priorities to drive the current and future phases of sexual assault reform.
