iLecture
iLecture lets students listen to lectures over the web.
If you have any problems listening to iLecture recordings, please go through this checklist
Your internet connection must be working correctly to use iLecture. Most lectures are streamed and are not available as Podcasts (MP3 downloads).
Firstly, choose the stream that suits your connection speed. If in doubt, try the low speed modem option first.
Secondly, check your version of Quicktime - you must have at least version 6 (it's free to upgrade). Note that you must say OK to accept ActiveX controls when visiting these pages - the ActiveX controls from the Quicktime and iLecture websites are OK, some on the web aren't .
The following weblink (opens in new window) will analyse your computer and tell you which version of Quicktime you have:
Thirdly, make sure Quicktime is correctly configured for streaming by visiting this webpage (it opens in a new window) - you should get a nice animation of the Quicktime symbol at the bottom of the page::
If you have any problems at this point, you will need to change some Quicktime settings. This applies especially if you use Windows XP SP2 as the security features and built in firewall may be causing the problem.
Changing Quicktime settings in Windows XP
Open the control panel (Start button > settings > control panel).
In the control panel, double click the Quicktime icon (which looks like this):

This opens the Quicktime Settings box, pictured below.

Click the 'Advanced' tab on the top right of the Quicktime Settings box (where the arrow is pointing):
Now where it says "automatic" (circled in red above), change this to "custom". Doing this brings up another little box for 'Streaming Transport'. At this point, you should enter the following information like this:
Transport: HTTP
Port ID: Custom... 554

Click OK and apply and save these settings and your stream should work correctly. You might need to close Quicktime and restart it.
