Mens Rea

The Criminology Postgraduate Society

Mens Rea aims to:

  • encourage social interaction of students within the Criminology Department,
  • provide academic support to fellow postgraduates and foster communication of research ideas and collaborations,
  • represent Criminology Department Postgraduate students to the Department, Faculty and University, and hence enhance the academic and professional life of the Criminology Department Postgraduate students.

 

Mens Rea: The Criminology Postgraduate Society welcomes all criminology postgraduate students to sign up for membership - download the membership form here, or collect one from the criminology general office. Please return completed applications to Mens Rea, care of the criminology general office.

The Criminal Pursuit is a one-day interdisciplinary conference organized by and for postgraduate students. It aims to provide a supportive environment in which participants can share their work and exchange ideas. All papers will be considered, however, those addressing the relationship between the pursuit of crime and any of the following perspectives are particularly welcomed:

    • Legal
    • Political
    • Social
    • Historical
    • Theoretical
    • Scientific
    • Philosophical

Since Mens Rea was established in 2002, criminology postgrads have enjoyed pub nights, research forums, picnics, BBQs, cocktails parties, movie nights, dinners, trivia nights, a wine tour, and four major conferences representing delegates from across Australia.
